Basin Plan Environmental Report Card released
24 January 2018
The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) in Victoria has released a report card that shows the progress made for fish, waterbirds and vegetation since the Murray-Darling Basin Plan was established in 2012.
The Plan was designed to create strong and vibrant communities, productive and resilient industries and healthy and diverse ecosystems.
The report card outlines real benefits from the water that has been recovered for the environment. Watering works at Hattah Lakes are enabling fish to move freely during system filling and draining. Monitoring has observed waterbird breeding for at least six threatened species, including Magpie Geese, in many waterway systems including Lake Cullen and Barmah Forest.
